Moscow Ballet

DELTA INTERNATIONAL SERIES
MOSCOW FESTIVAL BALLET performing Coppélia*

Monday, February 22, 2010

The Fox Theatre

The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi
Ballet Sergei Radchenko sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company within the framework of Russian classic ballet.

Since its inception, the Moscow Festival Ballet has completed two tours of Europe, with extraordinary receptions in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands. The company has also performed with great success in Turkey at the Istanbul Festival and in Greece at the Athens Festival, and recently completed a two-month tour
of Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Under the direction of Radchenko, the Moscow Festival Ballet continues to expand its repertoire, commissioning new works and specializing in 20th century full-length ballets such as Cinderella,
Romeo and Juliet, Legend of Love, Stone Flower,
and The Golden Age.

Soweto Gospel Choir

DELTA INTERNATIONAL SERIES
SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR

Thursday, February 25, 2010

The Fox Theatre

Expect earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, and a cappella numbers, as well as accompaniment by an exciting 4-piece band and percussion section.

Add to this, energetic dancing and vibrant, colorful costumes and the mix is awesome. This young dynamic choir performs both traditional and contemporary music, adding its own unique feel
and interpretation to both.

The choir performs in 6 of South Africa’s 11 official languages. This magnificent choir is styled with a contemporary feel, leaves all who hear it stunned with emotion. It is small wonder that they are charting a meteoric rise to international fame.

Their 2003 concert in Cape Town, under the auspices of former President Nelson Mandela, witnessed Soweto Gospel Choir in action alongside other musical greats like Bono, Queen, Anastacia, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Cliff, and the Eurythmics. Wherever Soweto Gospel Choir has performed, whether in Europe, Singapore, Australia, the United Kingdom, or the United States, they have wowed audiences.

The choir performed as invited guests for Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s 75th and Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations. Soweto Gospel Choir has garnered numerous prestigious awards during its five year existence, including 3 Grammy Awards.

Max Raabe an the Palast Orchester

DELTA INTERNATIONAL SERIES
MAX RAABE and the PALAST ORCHESTER

Sunday, March 7, 2010

The Fox Theatre

Founded in 1986 by the charismatic baritone Max Raabe, Max Raabe & Palast Orchester embodies the high style and musical glory of the 20's and 30’s.

Based in Berlin, they currently perform over 150 concerts a year around the world celebrating this timeless music with uncanny precision, drama and irony.

Max Raabe’s art lies in revealing the enigmatic intelligence, ambiguity, universal power and complexity of the “German chansons” from the turbulent Weimar Republic.  A singer of incredible range, Raabe has a singular ability to capture the cunning rasp of the cabaret singer, the confident belcanto hero, the carefree timbre of early jazz, and the falsetto of ragtime, all backed by his stellar 12-member band.

With repertoire focused on German and American standards, they keenly remind us that between melancholy and irony, rebellion and resignation, elegy and farce there is often only half a measure, sometimes just a single note or a mere word.   Max Raabe & Palast Orchester are slick and nostalgic and unmistakably modern through Raabe’s skewed humor, sardonic wit, and spot on interpretations.

DAVID COPPERFIELD - An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion*
January 23 - 24, 2010

The Fox Theatre

True to its title, ‘Grand Illusion’ is the logical and incredible evolution of this
conjurer’s art.

Copperfield’s goal in “Grand Illusion” is to take ones’ dreams (and maybe a few nightmares) and make them become reality using his state of the art wizardry.

“For magic to be relevant,” explains Copperfield, “it has to evolve so it keeps up with, or even surpasses, the best film and theatre. In the cinema the audience watches the characters’ dreams come true.”

"In ‘Grand Illusion,’ the audiences get to watch their dreams come true, live, before their very eyes
and in three dimensions."

What’s your Dream (or Nightmare)?
